Why did you choose VPD as an employer?
Dirk: My entire career has been focused on supporting ERP software. I’ve mainly worked in companies that encourage personal initiative, especially in production processes. At VPD, I found that same spirit: a growing company, full of challenges to tackle and opportunities to make a lasting impact. The flexible company structure and VPD's ability to act swiftly are incredibly motivating for me. Their slogan, “One day, you’ll find the job of your life,” perfectly describes my experience here.
Did you apply for a specific position?
Dirk: Yes, through a specialised recruitment agency, I learned that VPD was looking for an “Implementation Specialist.” The job posting immediately piqued my interest because it aligned perfectly with my experience and aspirations. I applied and now I’m part of the QPIT team, which stands for Quality, Processes, and IT. Every day, we work on improving processes and quality by using technology to create practical solutions. This is exactly what drives me.
Can you tell us about your previous work experience?
Dirk: For nearly 20 years, I worked at a printing company where I had great freedom to develop and implement business software. It allowed me to learn a lot about various areas, including accounting and logistics. The company grew rapidly, and being part of that evolution was incredibly rewarding. Later, I worked in a meat processing plant and a binding systems company, but those were more rigid organizations. At VPD, I’ve rediscovered the ability to act quickly, which I really missed in those previous roles.
The onboarding program plunged me straight into action.
How were your first months at VPD?
Dirk: I was pleasantly surprised from day one! The onboarding program was clear and well-structured, which made starting much easier. I worked alongside different colleagues to understand the needs and operations of the various departments. I even had the opportunity to accompany a driver for a day to observe operations in the field. This direct contact with teams and customers gave me practical insight into the challenges we face and deepened my respect for the team spirit here.
For me, IT is all about solving problems and helping people.
What motivates you most in your work?
Dirk: Helping others and solving problems. Many people think IT is purely technical and boring, but for me, it’s an opportunity to make a real difference. When I can help someone and see them leave with a smile, it’s incredibly satisfying. That’s what drives me every day.
What values at VPD do you appreciate the most?
Dirk: Flexibility, collegiality, and attention to people. At VPD, communication is direct and efficient. Every question, no matter how small, is taken seriously. This approach creates a positive work environment where everyone feels valued.
My goal: to become the IT expert capable of solving any challenge.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Dirk: I want to become the go-to expert on our IT systems. My goal is to master every detail and be able to answer any question or resolve any issue. I enjoy staying ahead of the curve and working with my colleagues to continuously find better, more efficient ways of operating.
